Not really sure how to start this so, I’m just going to get right into it.
My name is Sam and most of your reading this probably already know me, but for those random others, I’ll tell you a little bit about myself. I just turned 26. I am from Memphis, TN. I just moved to Seattle almost 2 years ago. I just got married this past November. I am a bartender/barista at a amazing neapolitan pizzeria. I enjoy coffee, delicious spirits/cocktails, wine, and cooking.
My weight has fluxuated like crazy over the past 7 years. At my heaviest I weighed right around 285. I’m glad to say that I’m not at 285 right now, but I am still at an unhealthy weight (I’ll give you all the number later). I’ve gone on different diets and had a flakey at best relationship with regular exercise. Before I started dating my lovely wife, I would pretty much each whatever was cheap an in front of me. For the longest time I couldn’t get under 220. It was my plateau, and I accepted that i would probably just weigh around 220 for the rest of my life.
Then I moved to Seattle, I was REALLY broke so I tried the don’t eat that much diet, and I dropped some weight, but as soon as I got a paying job and could afford excess food, I was right back at 220. Then I start dating this awesome lady that is into (mostly) healthy eating. I love to cook, so I started cooking for us (still do), and I noticed that I could actually eat healthier if I just paid attention to what I was putting into my body, controlled portions, and stayed away from processed food (more on that later).
So I had a very vague sense of what a “healthy diet” looked like, but this knowledge didn’t negate my LOVE for greasy fried food, corn dog, candy, pastries, and whatever else you would consider a comfort food. I went gluten free before the wedding to drop some pounds and ended up getting to 189 (my goal was 180), but I was still amazed. Then honeymoon, general married life, holidays, and my birthday. So I’m back to 214.
