Over half-way there!

Since I’m only doing 40 days now, that means as of Saturday (4/20) I’m halfway there. I gotta say, this last week has breezed by! I can’t remember where I heard this, but somebody somewhere said that, it takes the average human 14 consecutive days to develop a habit. That might explain why the last week has been pretty easy as far as cravings and whatnot. Speaking of halfway, I am 2 pounds short of halfway to goal weight (164). Weighed in a 191 this morning. Woohoo!!!

Today we had some of our friends and their kids over for breakfast. Dana did an amazing job of cleaning the whole apartment, so I decided that I would do all the cooking. We had breakfast potatoes, eggs, and pancakes. I was amazed with myself to be honest! I made enough breakfast for 5 adults and 2 kiddos with some left-overs and not once was I considering taking a bite. Of course I forgot to take pictures of this breakfast, but trust me (and Dana could attest this as well) it looked delicious!

The real fun part was that I had the kids (5 and 7) help me make my juice. We made everyone fresh orange juice (the kids said it was kinda ‘fuzzy’ which I think refers to the frothiness). Then I had them help me with a big glass of carrot juice for my breakfast. The 5 year old really liked it, and I don’t blame her! Carrot juice has just the right amount of sweetness. They wanted to make more so we did a pitcher of apple, pear, and cinnamon. It was SUPER sweet, and tastes sort of like cider, so they really loved that one.

One thing that’s haven’t mentioned on this blog is that I drink a TON of water. I don’t go anywhere without my trusty Nalgene bottle. Anybody that is considering a juice fast should do the same. Actually anybody breathing should do the same. Drink water people. Drinks that contain water don’t count (i.e.-“diet coke, gatorade, tea, whiskey etc. has water in it”). I forget to keep track of how much I drink a day, but If I had to guess, it’d be somewhere north of a buttload.

This past thursday, I had to close at work for the first time in a few months, and I was kinda nervous about my energy level. I was tired by the end of the night but ultimately was a breeze. I came home and to my surprise, Dana had made me juices for the next day. Have I mentioned that she is the best? Anyways, why I mention this, other than to dote on my wife, is to share another exciting potential side effect of my fast.

Can’t remember if I’d said it on here before, but I have had some food ‘sensitivities’ (which I just recently found out are different than allergies) for the majority of my life. Melons (watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe, etc.) bananas, kiwis, and cucumbers. To varying degrees these foods make my mouth itch and throat swell a bit. So I try to avoid them as much as possible. I love the smell and flavor of cucumbers, and to those who are already juicing out there, you know what a great ingredient cucumber is in alot of juices, so it has been a bummer to have to omit cucumbers from recipes. I tried to substitute zucchini, but it’s not the same. Well Dana put a half of a cucumber in the juices she made me, not trying to poison me or anything, but just to see if some how by a nutritional miracle my body can handle these foods without any major discomfort. I drank that one first and sure enough, NO ISSUES!! Hurray! I’m going to take it easy on them at first, but I’m excited to add cukes to my green juices.

That’s all for today, more pictures next time I promise.  Also Stay tuned- I’m going to start running again…. stay thirsty!
