187 (not a post about NWA)

I weigh 187 lb. BOOYAH! I’m feeling great. the rate at which I’m losing weight has slowed, so Dana and I will more than likely be joining a gym next week.  I look forward to that, I might even attempt to do yoga!

The other day, Dana asked me how often I feel hungry. I said “all the time” and she said no way, and so then I said “i’m not hungry when I’m asleep” which apparently isn’t true because she told me that I am chomping my teeth at night, so I must be dreaming about eating… That being said, I don’t really understand how it’s possible for me to be hungry all the time and still function, but i totally am! I think that since I have so much more energy, I just get busy doing whatever is in front of me, whether it’s work, writing, or juicing, and I don’t think about my hunger.

Another side effect that is AWESOME is that my mind is so clear. I was thinking about how awesome the last 25 days have been. Here’s a recap:

  • losing weight like crazy
  • booked a trip to Europe
  • went to Port Townsend
  • Got a promotion at work
  • The Memphis Grizzlies spanked the LA Clippers last night
  • our apartment is as clean as it’s ever been.
  • We had our friends over for breakfast

That’s just a few things, but yeah alot of that stuff is possible because I am sharper than ever.

cateringBefore I give you guys some recipes, I’m gonna talk about temptations again. One thing that I’m very grateful for is that through this fast I’ve had a chance to work on conquering my desires, because alot of the time my desires are either selfish, wrong, or short-sighted.  I worked a catering gig at work and we right between the Ethiopian food place and the Mexican food place.  It smelt amazing.  It was almost torture, but I survived it.  There was a TON of food left over from all the vendors, so we loaded up a big ole tray for the staff back at the restaurant and I packed Dana and my boss their own plates.  I was glad that my friends got to eat the leftover food.  I am definitely going to get some ethiopian food when I’m back on solid food.

Also the specials we have going on at work right now are AMAZING.  We have my second favorite pizza special right now, The pizza has extra virgin olive oil, fresh mozz, washington asparagus, ham, carmelized onions and grana padano.  It’s pretty tasty.  The wine special is a Gargenega.  I had never had that grape before, but I tried it (tasted and spit out) and this wine is amazing! I’m not normally a fan of white wine, but this one is mostly Gargenega, and it has some Sauv. Blanc, and some Chardonnay.  very very nice.  The cocktail special is also fantastic.  It has Averna, Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Aperol, Bitters, Lime Juice, Simple Syrup, and a splash of soda.  It tastes like a mildly sweetened tea.  I can’t wait to be done with the fast so that I can actually have one of each of these specials!!

Alright time for some recipes…. Here we go:

The weirdest one I’ve done lately is this:

  • 1/2 fennel bulb
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 grapefruit

This juice was perfect for dinner time, because it wasn’t to sweet, and not to savory.  The fennel and the grapefruit balance each other really well and the bell pepper serves as a good backdrop for the other 2 ingredients.  I don’t know where I came up with mixing fennel and grapefruit, but it turned out alright (unlike the red onion… blah)

  • 2 Apples (cored w/ a bunch of mint shoved where the core was)
  • 6 Strawberries
  • 2 Oranges

This one is really sweet, so whenever I make this juice I make sure and do a super duper green juice at some point in the day.  Here’s the super duper green I made for dana and myself today:

  • 1 Broccoli stalk and florets
  • 4 Celery Stalks
  • 4 Big Kale leaves
  • handful of spinach
  • handful of asparagus
  • handful of parsley
  • 1 head of romaine
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 orange
  • 1 apple

I wouldn’t have done the orange, but Dana likes her green juice a little sweeter than I do, so I threw that in for her.  She is trying out some intermittent fasting.  There are a bunch of different ways to do that, so we are playing it by ear and seeing what works for her.
